Switching Your Thinking

Does the Bible back up what we believe about God? Over the last 33 years I’ve had some interesting conversations with people on a variety of topics concerning their beliefs. What I’ve found is that when confronted with what a person believes to be true, and that their beliefs don’t line up with the Word of God, some people just don’t care. When revealed what they believe is not biblical, their response is, “I don’t care, it’s what I believe”. That type of thinking creates many issues, one being that the Bible is supposed to give us our belief system. We are to come to God, learn His Word, and change our behavior, actions, thinking and lifestyle to come in line with what He says. Why? Because He can’t bless what is not His, or comes from Him. We shouldn’t continue to hang on to old wives’ tales or something that makes us feel good even though God does not approve. We must become Word people. If the Bible says it, I believe it and I should change my beliefs to please God. God doesn’t change to please us. God says in His Word, “I am the Lord your God and I do not change.”

The Blame of Faults

Responsibility is becoming a foul word in our society these days. Everyone from the President to the average citizen wants to blame everyone else for their problems. It’s easier to blame someone or something for whatever is wrong in our lives than to take responsibility for the decisions we make. We would rather blame society, our race, the system, our boss, or our company, instead of owning up to it. Franklin P. Jones once said, “Be thankful for bad luck. Without it, you’d have to blame yourself”. Sure, a lot of us weren’t raised with good parents or our opportunities were limited, but, until we are willing to take responsibility for our lives, actions or decisions, we’re stuck and life won’t get any better and things won’t change. Let’s stop blaming and start dealing with the issues in our lives and watch what happens.

I believe your attitude will get better and your perspective on life will become more hopeful, and you’ll start to see solutions instead of obstacles. The bottom line is that it’s your choice. You can play the blame game or you can grow and change.

Three Reasons People Make Bad Choices

Tuesday, June 11, 2013 9:33 AM

I heard a message the other day that spoke about how God is always thinking of us. The thoughts He is thinking towards us are for good and not evil, not to harm us, but to prosper us and give us a hope and a future. Wow…the God of the universe is always thinking about us!! He is thinking thoughts to help you and me and prosper us. That thought alone should encourage us and keep us encouraged, instead of self-justifying our actions and placing the blame on others. If I know God is always thinking about me, then I must learn to take responsibility. For some, it’s not an easy task, but one that could be corrected for our good, if dealt with properly. No matter what you have done or are doing, God is still thinking thoughts on how to help and bless you; He’s working to get you into the truth and to live better. Let’s stay encouraged; knowing God Himself is our friend and helper.

Giving and Receiving

It has been interesting to hear all of the testimonies that are coming in from people who have decided to honor God by putting Him first in the area of their finances. The only way to put Him first is to begin to tithe (give Him [the church]) the first 10% of what you make. II Corinthians 9:6-7 talks about giving and the attitude that should accompany it. It’s amazing what can happen in our lives for the good when we obey the Word of God. If our money isn’t right, the other areas of our lives won’t seem to be right, either. When we get it right with our money, everything else will work itself out. God wants to be first in every area. In Exodus 20:3, the first commandment God gives says, “You shall have no other gods before me.” Anything we put before God immediately takes a position that belongs to Him. Whatever keeps us from doing what He asks is a violation of the first commandment. In the area of money, there seems to be a block or an unwillingness to trust and submit; to be obedient to God’s Word. The Bible says to trust Him in this area and see if He won’t open the windows of Heaven and pour out such a blessing you can’t even contain it (Malachi 3:10-11).

The Gift Of Sacrifice

Wednesday, May 29, 2013 10:25 AM

On Monday, we celebrated Memorial Day which is a day to remember all of the men and women who have given their life in defense of this great country. They sacrificed everything in serving America. This is the ultimate sacrifice. To the fallen heroes of this nation, we thank you for all that you have done and endured to protect and preserve the ideals and beliefs that keep us free. We are able to enjoy the rights that God has given us because of their sacrifice. Sacrifice is defined as “the act of giving up, destroying, permitting injury to, or forgoing something valued for the sake of something having a more pressing claim”.

This is a word that some don’t want to hear. We tend to want and achieve something, but without the sacrifice. We believe, at times, we deserve this or that, meaning that if we want it, we shouldn’t have to sacrifice for it. This seems to be the unhealthy attitude prevailing in today’s society. When you achieve something, you tend to appreciate it more than if it were just given to you. We tend to take things for granted, and in turn, that takes our incentive to grow, develop and achieve success away. We sacrifice different things (money, time, enjoyment, etc.) at different times to achieve a goal, but in order to truly accomplish things in our lives, it takes a commitment and starts with a sacrifice. It’s a good word that will bring great fulfillment to our lives.
