Our Greatest Need is...
What do you think our greatest need is? Is it more money, wealth, prosperity, ensuring the needs of the poor are met, health or acquiring more “stuff”? I believe Jesus said it best when He was hanging from the cross: “Father, forgive them for they know not what they do.” Jesus didn’t pray for the prosperity of the nations or their health or for the poor. He prayed for the greatest need we have: forgiveness. We need forgiveness and to forgive others as well as ourselves.
Forgiveness means to set free; to let go; to release and to liberate completely; to cancel a debt. I think you get the picture. This is what Jesus did for all who call on His name and follow Him and pursue His ways. At that time, the Romans were murdering Jesus and He says to forgive them. Think about it. Forgive those who are murdering me for no reason. To me, that’s huge. He is saying that no matter what you’ve done in your life, if you ask Him, He’ll forgive you. That’s great news. God says our greatest need is to be forgiven.

The Avarice Attitude Pt. II
Resentment is an attitude in which we feel or express annoyance or ill-will at what others have. It stems from believing we’ve been done wrong or don’t have what we think we deserve. It destroys us from the inside out. Another term for it is offense, or to be offended. Many people today are resentful or offended with their lot in life. They’re upset about what they don’t have, so they feel wronged in life and feel cheated. People like this will blame others for why they don’t have much.
You can see it today in our country. People believe in the concept of the people of who have to pay their fair share. They already pay taxes, but for some, that’s not enough. How sad that people are being taught to resent what others have and what they don’t. By working hard, and doing what God’s Word says, we can reverse this attitude in our lives. When we look to God, and not the government or someone else for our needs, our needs will be met. Resentment destroys our lives, and brings no peace or joy. Let’s start being thankful for what we have and let go of this destructive feeling of resentment.

The Power of the Tongue
Life is what you make of it regardless of the circumstances. We make our own choices. The Bible talks about the tongue and how it has the ability to speak life or death not just into our lives, but into the lives of others as well. We can always talk negative and let things come out of our mouth that will constantly be a hindrance to us, or we can speak life; positively speak those things which can help and affect our lives in good ways. We get to choose what comes out of our mouths. When I say things like, “I’m no good; I’m never going to make it” that actually makes me feel bad about myself and affects my outlook on life. But when I begin to speak life, I feel better about myself and how I see life in a better light. We choose everyday how we react to situations. Start speaking life, start talking positively and get away from bad news and start talking about what is right in life. Think on things that are good.

The Avarice Attitude
Resenting what others have is wrong. We are to rejoice with those who rejoice…
Resentment means a feeling of displeasure and indignation from a sense of being injured or offended. In our country, people have been taught to resent what others have. There are those who believe they are the ones who get to determine who has too much or too little. It’s a sad day in the greatest country ever, when we think we can resent what somebody has and think we can take it from them or tax them (another way of taking) to give it to someone else. It’s one thing for those people to be generous and give of what they have, and it’s another for someone else to take it, or worse, try to make people feel guilty for their success. How sad! We, as a nation, have fallen far if we think this is right. The farther we get from God, the more we covet what others have. The thought that I could resent what others have or resent their success is sad. The remedy for this is to be thankful for what we do have. If you are a thankful person, I don’t believe you would resent what others have or don’t have.

Spirit of Covetousness
To have a right relationship with God, we must learn His Word and follow it. There’s a spirit of covetousness that is so prevalent in our country, people have rejected God and His ways. They have gone after idols such as resentment. Many people today are willing to give up everything for a government that will give them a life. I’m thankful that I was never taught to resent what others have. Because people have rejected God’s ways, they’ve made for themselves a “god of covetousness.”
To define “covetousness” means to want someone to lose what they have so that you can have it. We are supposed to depend on God. He is the One who will meet our needs according to His riches and glory. Our rejection of Him and His Word has caused division among us as believers. God is our source and no other. We shouldn’t resent what others have. We shouldn’t embrace a government that wants to restrain our freedoms, or that embraces all that is wrong in the world. We are to embrace God and His ways and fight for the right to worship, to live without any interference from the state and to believe Him for our daily bread.
