The Difficulty of Duality

Tuesday, October 9, 2012 2:26 PM
Tuesday, October 9, 2012 2:26 PM

Many people live a life of compartmentalization. That means to separate into different parts, or categories in your mind. When we live this way, it creates great confusion and frustration. This is how it works: you go to work and act one way. Maybe you’re a salesman and you believe that in order to make a sale, it’s ok to stretch the facts and make claims you know are false. Then you go home and teach your children that it’s unacceptable to tell lies in your house. This is how compartmentalization works. It’s unhealthy and confusing. We must learn to be the same everywhere we go, because we will be healthier and more consistent.

You see it happen all the time with politicians. They say whatever a person wants to hear, but never intend to keep their word or promises. It’s the life of what is expedient at the time. This is what ruins people. Let’s learn not to rationalize why we do what we do. Let’s be people of honor and integrity. It’s easier to be the same person wherever you go, rather than to lead dual lives.

The Choice is Yours

Tuesday, October 2, 2012 1:08 PM
Tuesday, October 2, 2012 1:08 PM

Every day you and I get to make decisions and choices on a variety of issues and life situations. We get to choose what to wear, what we eat and how we talk and what we talk about. We decide what we believe and how committed we are to it. We decide how we live our lives and the rules that govern us. We choose to be honest and we choose how we treat others. We choose our belief in God and His Son, Jesus, and whether we are willing to live by His commandments, precepts and Word.

If we say we are believers, then we have to decide to allow our lives to be molded and shaped by the Word of God and put Him first. Either He is Lord OF ALL, or not Lord AT ALL. A decision otherwise is foolishness in God’s sight. We’re either all in, or all out; there’s no middle ground. We decide that God’s Word takes first place in our lives, or it has NO place. We make a conscious decision when we read the Word that we should act on the Word.  This is the only way we can truly be His disciples…your choice.

Personal Priorities

Tuesday, September 25, 2012 2:19 PM
Tuesday, September 25, 2012 2:19 PM

We as Christians have to grow to a place where the Kingdom of God comes first and building it becomes a priority. I John 2: 15 – 17 says, “Do not love or cherish the world or the things in it.” We live in the world and can enjoy the things it offers, but we can’t love those things.  We can’t give those “things” the place in our lives that rightfully belong to God. Those things will eventually fade away one day and won’t matter when we die and meet our God. We must put the Kingdom of God first in every area of our lives. Tithing is an example of this, in that we give the first fruits of all of our income. We must develop a “Kingdom First” mentality.  Reaching people for the Kingdom has to be a priority. When it isn’t, we end up loving the world more than God. We need to re-evaluate what’s important to us as Christians. Who or what do we love? What do we value the most, the “things” in the world, or God’s command to go out and make disciples of all the nations? How you answer reveals your priorities.

First Things First

Tuesday, September 18, 2012 1:07 PM

Have you ever thought much about whom or what should come first in your life? For some, it may be their family, yet others may say their job, and still others may say themselves. In reality, it’s “none of the above.” God should take the utmost priority in our lives. He’s either Lord of all or not Lord at all. When we put God first, the rest of our lives seem to fall into place. We should put God first, then our spouse, then children, and then our job or profession. When we prioritize God, He is able to help, lead and guide our lives. There are many that have been taught that “family comes first”. The Bible actually teaches us that to love God and love our families a little less than God. Today, it’s the opposite. In Luke 14:26 Jesus says, “…you cannot be my disciple if you don’t ‘hate’ your family.” What Jesus was teaching was that you must love God more and put him first in order to be a true follower. Let’s give God and His Word the proper position in our lives.

Making Changes

Tuesday, September 11, 2012 3:22 PM
Tuesday, September 11, 2012 3:22 PM

Making changes in our lives usually happens when we get sick and tired of our results, or we see a real need for it. Change is sometimes difficult for people because we do something one way for so long it becomes a habit, and then we have to re-think that behavior and have to decide to make a conscious decision to move out of our routine.

There are a couple of things we can do to help ourselves in our life, our thought life and how we behave. The first one is disgust; this happens when we become sick and tired of being sick and tired. This is when change can occur. Another one is desire. This is when you have a longing for something and you take action towards achieving that goal. When we come to that point, anything is possible. It will take work and a decision of your will with no other option. But with God’s help and His Word, we can make the necessary changes that can have a profound and positive effect on our lives. Go ahead and begin today. Make a change.
