One Nation Under God
America’s 250th birthday gives us a moment to celebrate, remember, and give thanks.
We do not just remember a date. We remember the beginning of a nation that God has blessed in incredible ways.
A gift to steward:
America has been blessed in ways many nations have not. Freedom, opportunity, worship, family, work, and the ability to speak truth are all gifts from God. But gifts can be used wisely, or they can be wasted. The Bible says, “Blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord” (Psalm 33:12). Our blessing is not found in money, military, politics, or power. It is found in honoring God.
A heart to examine:
It is easy to celebrate freedom while forgetting the One who gave it. Freedom without God becomes selfishness. Liberty without truth becomes confusion. We can wave a flag and still have hearts far from the Lord. America does not need less God; America needs to return to God. God said if His people would humble themselves, pray, seek His face, and turn from their wicked ways, He would hear and heal (2 Chronicles 7:14). That begins with us.
A nation worth defending:
I thank God for America. I believe America is the greatest nation on earth, not because we are perfect, but because our foundation has given more freedom, more opportunity, and more hope to more people than any nation in history. We should honor the men and women who gave their lives for this nation, and we should be grateful for those who serve today. Freedom is not free; it has been protected by sacrifice. We should love this country, pray for our leaders, defend truth, and refuse to be ashamed of the blessings God has given us. But our highest loyalty must always be to Jesus Christ. Philippians 3:20 says our citizenship is in heaven.
So, as we celebrate 250 years of America, let’s celebrate with gratitude and live with conviction.
Let’s believe for America to be strong, free, moral, and once again turned toward God.
In God we trust. May we live like it.
Just a thought,
PSS
