Mastering Insecurities

Monday, August 15, 2011 10:18 AM
Monday, August 15, 2011 10:18 AM

All of us have insecurities, but the question is, “How do we overcome them?” An insecurity is an inward fear manifesting outwardly. Insecurity is one of the most common reasons so many fail in life. It gets the best of them and then people don’t produce or they can become overbearing and controlling. It can even paralyze them, their relationships and their emotions.

The solution for our insecurities is humility. We need to be willing to recognize them and admit what they are. Only then are we ready to deal with them. If we push them aside, ignore them, or remain in denial we will only aid them in overcoming us. We must be willing to confront them; it’s mastering them that will make us healthy in every way. “What you fail to master in your life will eventually master you.” – Author unknown

Nothing is Impossible

Monday, August 8, 2011 9:33 AM

These next two weeks will be a time of great excitement at Legacy Church! We launch our new campus on the east side of our community (4701 Montgomery) tonight at 6:30. I am so proud to pastor a group of people that truly believe God can do anything through them. We started this journey when God gave me a thought almost 4 years ago. I remember wondering if anyone else would get on board, or if people would think I was crazy. Thankfully, many of you believed God and now we are on the cusp of being able to reach all of Albuquerque with the Gospel of Jesus Christ!

There is nothing that is impossible to people who truly believe God, (Mark 9:23). We are privileged to see this passage come to life before our very eyes. I believe the sky is the limit when it comes to reaching people for the cause of Christ. I cannot wait to hear the stories of lives that have been changed through the ministry of our East Campus.

As we are reminded of the greatness of God, I pray you can apply this to your life. Regardless of the obstacles that are in your way, the promise of God is enough to not only sustain you, but to allow you to reach goals you never thought possible! Winston Churchill once gave a great speech that simply read, Never, never, never, never, never, never, never give up. I encourage you to remember this as you endeavor to achieve the great things God has already set up for you (Eph 2:10).

I hope to see you at our East Campus soon. Our service times are Tuesday at 6:30 P.M., Saturday at 5:30 P.M., and Sunday at 11:00 A.M.  We will also have 2 nights of Open House at our East Campus. The first one will be Thursday at 6 P.M, and the second one will be Friday at 6 P.M. See you there!

Just a thought, God bless.

The Mature Christian

Monday, August 1, 2011 5:00 AM
Monday, August 1, 2011 5:00 AM

When we become Christians and follow Christ and His ways, we should grow and become mature in our knowledge and understanding of God's Word. God wants us to grow in his image and likeness, much like some kids start to look more like the parent as they get older. As we get more mature in Christ, our thoughts begin to be His thoughts, and our ways begin to be His ways. Isaiah 55:8 says God's thoughts are higher than ours, but another way to say it would be God's thoughts and ways are superior to our thoughts and ways. For us to be mature and become who God wants us to be, we need to get rid of any fake expectations of God and His Word. Here's an example of a false expectation: If God loves me, he'll make sure I don't ever experience trouble or even a little suffering from time to time. Walking with God doesn't guarantee a get out of jail free card. He will help us through difficult times, but he never promised everything will be perfect or without issues. He only promised that it would work out for our good. God desires that we mature, which necessitates learning to survive the bumps in the road and the harder aspects of being in a fallen world. He is creating an adult. Are you ready?

Condemned

Condemnation is a thief in people's lives. It will cause us to feel inadequate and produce low self-esteem and self-worth. Condemnation is defined as "an inward state of being based on a person's belief that they are strongly disapproved of." They have declared themselves guilty and they have inflicted a penalty upon themselves that they are unfit for use. This is where a lot of people live today, whether in the church or out of it. They did something they deem unforgivable by either someone else or themselves.  No matter the cause, that's an awful place to be. The feelings this place in life will spawn are low self-esteem, anger and depression; and those are dangerous for relationships. We can avoid this misery by understanding that it's not from God and it is not healthy emotion. It is self-inflicted based on lack of understanding and bad teachings of God and His Word.

We must believe in God and understand that He will forgive when we repent. We can move forward, but if we believe our actions are unforgivable, condemnation and self-loathing will result. This sense of being unworthy can lead to eating disorders, people cutting themselves and doing things that destroy their lives. The only real remedy is to ask Jesus to come into your heart. Romans 10: 9 and 10 says, "...that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Believe God that when you honestly ask for forgiveness, you'll be forgiven. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness."  - I John 1:9

Finding Security in an Insecure World

Monday, July 18, 2011 9:07 AM
Monday, July 18, 2011 9:07 AM

When we get up in the morning, most of us want to feel secure in life. We as people place our security in many different things. Some of us place it in people, so when someone lets us down, we become decimated. Some of us place it in our job and we've seen (what looks to be) a secure business go under. Whatever it is that becomes our god or savior becomes the thing that we serve. The Bible says not to put your trust in uncertain riches that are here today and gone tomorrow. We need to be secure in who created us, the earth and all that is in it. If we are secure in God, we can handle any situation that is thrown at us. So many people put their trust in the wrong things and that's why they are hurting and broken.  If we choose to put our trust in God, He is faithful and can be counted on.

Where does your security lie? Have we mistakenly put our trust in something that will fail one day or are we willing to trust in someone who will never fail? "...that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation." Romans 10:9 - 10
